Group IV: Land Governance, Forest Governance and Sustainable Agriculture (Agroforestry)

a. Objective

To contribute to the improvement of land and forest governance and sustainable agricultural practices.

b. Main identified challenges

  • Over taxation of agricultural products;
  • Non-regular development and maintenance of agricultural roads/tracks;
  • Failure to strengthen agricultural cooperatives;
  • Non-use of good agricultural practices for sustainable agriculture;
  • The training of scientists who could turn into the brain behind the modeling of all conservation efforts to be undertaken by various stakeholders (a link between projects and doctoral training should be made);
  • Unavailability of seed production and unavailability of seeds and plant material to stakeholders;
  • Low processing, conservation, and marketing of agricultural products

 c. Solutions/projects’ ideas

  • Advocacy for transparency and for proper forest and land governance in the Congo Basin;
  • Agroforestry and domestication of species attached to local and indigenous populations in the fight against poverty and climate change in the Congo Basin;
  • Initiative on the peaceful coexistence between local communities and elephants and other rodents in the Congo Basin;
  • Youth Agricultural and Forestry Forum for the Promotion of Innovation in the Congo Basin;
  • Popularization of legal texts among indigenous / pygmy peoples.

d. Cooperation mechanisms

  • Creation of a virtual exchange group.
