A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO CONSERVATION

Welcome to the Official Website of the Congo Basin Leaders’ Initiative

CBLI is basically made of groups of people from different backgrounds that have a shared interest in conservation in the Congo Basin and believe they can accomplish more by working together. Our members come from the Private Sector, the Civil Society and the Scientific arena.

The Congo Basin Leaders’ Initiative is an outcome of the Congo Basin Conclave that was organized in Kinshasa from April 22 to 24, 2024 with funding provided by the US Government via the US embassy – Kinshasa.

Our approach for the effective conservation of ecosystems in the Congo Basin rests on 6 working groups:

Working Group 1

Ecotourism, conservation, and protection of biodiversity

Working Group 2

Waste management

Working Group 3

Deforestation and production of alternative and/or renewable energies

Working Group 4

Land Governance, Forest Governance and Sustainable Agriculture (Agroforestry)

Working Group 5

Culture and Environmental Education

Working Group 6

Socio-economic rights of local, indigenous, and riparian populations and the enhancement of traditional knowledge

Our Mission

To protect and conserve the biodiversity in the Congo Basin by promoting sustainable environmental practices and leading to economic development.

Our Vision

CBLI vision is to make the Congo Basin the best-conserved forest ecosystem in the world while maintaining its ecological and cultural integrity, and in which local, riparian and indigenous communities are fully involved and their traditional knowledge is sufficiently valued.
